I loved the book, so much so that in college I was the dork that knew what classical composers the demon attributed to which rock songs. I thought it was one of the most hilarious books I ever read. And it has been a while since I picked it up again, but I don't remember the book being pretentious. Yet the show feels pretentious, the humor isn't really fun, it isn't a hysterical satire that works on multiple levels...it's kind of just snooty. The book felt like it was made for everyone, but the show feels a bit elitist And honestly that's a shame, I was really excited about it
